My husband, Leigh, my 26 year old daughter, Sylvia, and I went to the “Super Bowl” of tennis competitions, the famed Wimbledon in London, England this summer to celebrate my husband’s second retirement this time from the casino industry. His first retirement in 2003, after 31 years of teaching in Miami, Florida and my daughter’s high school graduation, was celebrated by a trip to Wimbledon by my daughter and husband only. I had to stay behind to take care of my mother who was quite sick at the time.
We had these pictures taken while “queuing” (waiting in lines of 1,000 people each & there were at least 10 lines monitored by Wimbledon officials) for a chance of getting a Wimbledon Grounds Pass which enables you to get to any of the tennis courts except the three main courts – the waiting was as long as six or seven hours. Andy Murray was a big London tennis favorite so we donned these masks of his face to help pass the time in line.
We carried the Be Kind shirts around in our travels in England and to Krakow, Poland. We wanted others to be inspired by the “Be Kind” message.
